April 9, 2006:
Cumb.org went down today while the software running the server was updated.
Geek: The good old cumb.org server was
upgraded from the positively ancient Linux kernel version 2.2 to the new and improved kernel 2.6 provided by the nice folks at the
Debian Linux distribution. Yay for ext3 and not having to wait for fsck to run every time the power goes out! Also, a few days ago the cumb.org server was moved from Horace Mann Hall at
TC to Watson Hall on 115th street. As a result, we get easier access to the server (TC is far away) and cumb.org is now running on a 100Mbit line rather than a
10Mbit one.
Non-Geek: Cumb.org is now better, faster, and more awesome!
Look out for major updates this summer.
September 9, 2004:
Launch of cumb.org, v.9. So much has changed that we in order to catch up to the rest of the world we had to skip versiions 5 through 8. . Through the incredible work of Jeff Mishler and Mark Tabry which caused them to be awake for 43 hours at a time, cumb.org throws off the shackles of the 1997-era tables-with-borders design is updated to 2004 standards, and unleashed upon the world. Included in the changes:
- Snazzy bold new design.
- All the scripts from the 2003 season are now complete. Thanks Ave.
- 10 new scripts from the 60s and 70s are online. Most of them are The Good Guys vs. Harvard. My personal fav is Harvard '64. Thanks Rudy.
- The pictures section is now live. Once y'all can log in, I'm sure you'll fill it up with pictures from the last many years of games and events. For now it's basically got all the pictures me and Mark took last year.
- New Bright Colors! Prizes!
- Some other news that wasn't mentioned on this page, including an item questioning to journalistic integrity of the Daily News
- Ridiculous overhaul of the backend so that when we leave any jackass will be able to run the site.
- And for the geekiest among us, the site was totally done with php/css/cumbscript running on a huge Black Box running Debian.
Things to be done:
- The feedback page is mysteriously missing. Email feedback@cumb.org for now.
- Members-only.. well, right now it's me-only. That'll get fixed really quickly. Don't you worry, just give it a week or two.
We know we screwed up a few things. Chances are they'll be fixed by the end of the weekend, but regardless, let us know about them.
October 06, 2003:
Thanks to the state of Ohio, the biggest blackout in U.S. history also caused the most frustrating blackout of the CUMB web server. The hardware is updated from the dark ages of computing technology and the server is reinstated in it's home in TC.
September 2, 2002:
